Area of Trapezoids
Trapezoids have ONE pair of parallel sides. These are ALWAYS the bases. The bases in a trapezoid are NOT the same lengths.
A trapezoid is half of a parallelogram, so the area of a trapezoid is half of a parallelogram.
Height ALWAYS makes a RIGHT ANGLE with the base. Always look for the square that means right angle. It will help you identify the base and height for the shape. Height is NEVER the slanted side. Think how you are measured for your height...you don't slant, you stand straight!

What is AREA??
Area is the amount of SPACE something COVERS.
Think about rugs in your home...they cover a certain amount of your floor!
